Going Home...

I apologize to many for being out of touch lately... my Papi, my grandfather and the man who has raised me since I was 9 months old, is nearing the end of his long fight with cancer. Words cannot express how deeply this hurts me, my family, and him, who has been the cornerstone of our family for so long. I know that he has put up a valient fight against this disease, and I do not want him to suffer any longer. Nevertheless, it is difficult to accept that the time has come to say goodbye...

One of my closest friends asked me to read the book, Final Gifts, to help me understand what is happening and what to expect. Reading that book has given me a new understanding of what awaits Papi, and what his journey home will entail. And although I will miss him terribly, I know that he will be happy and at peace.

Papi will leave us all his legacy in the work ethic he has enstilled in us... the determination to work at something, the dicipline that if something is worth doing, its worth doing right. That is what my life has been based on, and for him.... I vow to approach everything I do in this manner, including my 2007 season and beyond.

Papi, I hope that I will always make you proud... and this season is all for you.
