Well, I got to pick up my car this week. BOTH of them. I started off the week traveling to Stockbridge to pick up my new daily driver. Consider it a severe form of retail therapy. With all the moving... away from family, friends, and familiarity, and with all the recent hardships I've endured, I felt good to actually get something that I truly wanted for so long... something that I really enjoy driving. The right color (inside & out), the right transmission, and finally, the right ENGINE combo. Now, I don't feel so bad in the parking lot at work. An F350 dually doesn't blend well (or fit well) in the sea of BMW convertibles of my coworkers. It was quite the ordeal to get it (thanks to Chop, who drove 15 hours home from Englishtown, NJ only to jump in a car with me to head over to Atlanta), but I'm glad to have it home!
Then, I got to jump in the truck again to head down to the chassis shop to pick up my racecar. You think I'd be more excited, but looking at it just makes me depressed. After all the waiting, all the working on sponsors and debuts, all the anticipation, and I'm still behind schedule, my sponsors are getting upset, and there still so much left to do. Body work, paint, more chassis work, more money, more time... But, I'm on a mission to get it done. The seat of my racecar has always been one of the most comforting, and soothing places in my life. And with all the stress and trauma my life has endured the last 7 months, I really *need* to be back in that seat.
